They Call it a Fly Over State

By Jeremy Kendrick

They call it a fly over state
Something I’d love to debate

Fields with miles and miles on end
Bourbon so pure in every blend

People greeting you with a smile
Telling you to slow down, even if just for a while

Basking in the views of the horses
Their presence so majestic in their forces

Skylines against the water
Giving ease even to the greatest plotter

The sun glistening against the mighty Ohio River
Bringing even the toughest a little shiver

Pinks, purples and oranges in every sunset
Just one of the many sights that you’ll never forget

The smell of the earth in the wind
And just like that, into heaven you ascend

People of every shape, size and color
Each making life that much less duller

From the biggest of our cities to our smallest of towns
You’ll find each heart so full of love in how it pounds

Trust me when I say, you won’t believe the Kentucky sun in how she shines
Helping us among it be able to read between the lines

You can say this isn’t for you
But I know for a fact that it’s not true

They call it a fly over state
But it’s something I’d love to debate
