Oh Dear Journey

By Jeremy Kendrick

I keep forgetting
When life is upsetting
Stop sweating
Get out and leave your setting

Put on your favorite cassette
Take a moment to reset

Surround yourself with the people you love
Remember you’re blessed from something, someone …up above

Get in your car and begin to roam
Right to the place you have always called home

No, before I wouldn’t say that I was okay
But at least for now, that feeling is at bay
Even if it’s just for today
But to hold this feeling forever, for that I pray
For from this peace, I hope to never stray

Sometimes this road is bumpy and this journey is hard
Leaving me broken, leaving me scarred

But for now I know, I’ve been here before
And though through my travels I am beaten and I am sore
I’m reminded that the great white heron continues to soar
I’m reminded that, for me, life still has so much in store

Though this part of the road may be such a tough strand
Though this part of the road is something I had not planned
Remind me that from greatness I have not been banned

Oh dear journey, please take my hand
Help me remember, I have been here before and I can withstand
Help pick me up, rise again and forever boldly stand

Here I go, traveling back to reality
Back to be
Back to be the greatest, most powerful version of me
