The Poet

By Jeremy Kendrick

The leaves beneath crunch and they crumble
Yet among them, I never seem to stumble

The leaves, they live and they die
They fascinate me, yet what’s the difference between them and I?

We come and we go
Through the trials and thrills of life we flow

Sometimes I wonder
What else should I ponder?
To be here and now, I suppose that’s life’s great wonder

Here, life simply feels easy
Where the sun shines, and it’s ever so breezy

Don’t spend your time worrying for me
For past these walls of society, I’m able to see

I suppose you’d say, I never thought I could be a poet
Yet all along, I think I’ve always known it
Now here I am, thinking wow, holy shit
I wanted to show me, and now, this is it
