Can’t Take the Paducah Out of the Boy
It’s out there amongst the fields of Paducah and La Center,
Tucked away in the far corner of Kentucky that most wouldn’t even know to enter.
It’s out there where most wouldn’t think to go,
Out there in a place most of the world doesn’t even know.
It’s a place that without even trying,
Every time I leave I find myself crying.
Maybe it’s because out there,
Time seems to pass but I don’t seem to care.
Maybe it’s because there things just seem so much simpler,
Maybe it’s because there every corner is all too familiar.
Or perhaps it’s that pure small town charm,
Or perhaps it’s how there it seems as though life can do no harm.
All I know is that there I can feel my mind begin to slow,
A place whose comfort makes my heart simply overflow.
But I know what brings me back is that unconditional love,
Something so pure that most haven’t even heard of.
Because of that love that I couldn’t feel anymore lucky,
And because of it I can’t seem to leave this sweet land of Kentucky.
So to this world I say with a heart full of joy,
You can take the boy out of Paducah but you can’t the Paducah out of the boy.
