Underneath These Southern Skies

By Jeremy Kendrick

Overwhelmed with how this life gives me highs
Bringing tears to my eyes

It seems here that normalcy barely even applies
Hardship here never even tries

Watch the sun in the way that it seems to rise
Just to be here to see this is an ever captivating prize

Across my days I’ve been foolish and I’ve been wise
But all along I’ve know that leaving a place like this, I’d never advise

How can this place seem to comprise
Of beauty without compromise

You’ll find elsewhere life hides behind its disguise
But here everything is at it implies
Where every worry comes and dies

I think here you’ll find it quite a surprise
That all you need is love and nature as your only supplies

Here in these lands where the great white heron flies
I’m filled with gratitude underneath these southern skies
