Like a Drug

By Jeremy Kendrick

I’ve been here to the top of the Rocky Mountains
Across these lands I’ve seen beauty and purity flow like fountains

I walk these sacred acres
Far from the movers, far from the shakers

I need these moments to remind me why we’re all here
I need these moments just to be able to see clear

I can sit around and act like I’m one of the boys
But to be honest, sometimes I can’t seem to handle life’s noise

I need my time among the trees and their many shades of greens
I need it so bad, and like a drug, I’ll get it by any means

I promise I’ll keep going, I swear to you I will
So long as you give me time out here in the fields where life for a moment becomes so still

I feel life’s pull slowly decrease
Out here, in just a simple moment of peace
