A Gesture So Kind

By Jeremy Kendrick

I walk alone,
For no one can see what I see, this much is shown
Who’s to care anyway, when all of this is mine to own.

There’s no one among me,
No one who hears the sounds in my ears or sees the sights I have in front of me.

I think I am alone, but am I?
The giants and the open arms of the mighty Ohio River keep still my usually uneasy eye.

The giants and the greats, they shout
That there’s hope and power, without a doubt.

How to harness it all may never be known,
Something that perhaps has yet to be shown

Yet until then, these giants and these hills
And the breath of the almighty Ohio River’s gills
Will forever continue to give me chills.

So call me home today,
For I have nothing left to say.

For the fact that God keeps me alive blows my mind,
But who am I to say no to a gesture so kind?
